"The circle is perfect. The circle is completely boring. A circular disk or ring is only suitable as a design element when it is deformed, when harmony is joined by tension as an emotional, human element."
Roland Phleps 1997, in: Steel Sculptures I, p. 7 and 2017, in: Steel Sculptures IX, p. 28.

The showcase exhibition in winter 2025/26 in Roland Phleps' Foundation Hall picks up on one of the central exhibitions from the past - "Circle and Sphere Variations" from winter 2017/18 - and supplements it with older works by the artist. The exhibition shows how diverse the circle can be: cut open, twisted, formed into a sphere, cuttingly sharp or filigree and light. The exhibition brings to life the playful approach to which Roland Phleps has always remained true as an artist.

The circle plays a prominent role in Roland Phleps' oeuvre: it is not only the first of the basic geometric forms with which the artist occupied himself, but also accompanied him until the last years of his life. The circle is the theme of his first and also his last catalog of works published during his lifetime. With this basic form, he also symbolically closes the circle of his work.
