We cordially invite you to discover the works of Helga Weihs. The artist completes the 2026 annual series „do you want it black or white?“ at the Roland Phleps Foundation for Concrete Art with this exhibition. With her large-format wood works, she opens up spaces where light and shadow, openness and closure meet.
Inside and outside, positive and negative, light and dark – these opposites run through Helga Weihs’ work. Battens and panels are arranged next to and on top of each other to create floor and wall works, from which stripes, openings, and delicate structures emerge. Visitors can partially enter this narrow intermediate space, walk around the lines and shadows, experience the light between the battens, and thus become part of the artwork.
The duo BUT FIVE draws its repertoire from classic jazz, bossa nova, and love songs. Nina Brackrock (tenor saxophone, vocals, piano) began her musical career on the piano and discovered the tenor saxophone at the age of 16. After performing with the school big band, she has been active with her own ensembles in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region since the 2000s. Her repertoire includes pieces from the Great American Songbook as well as bossa nova, inspired by artists such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, and Astrud Gilberto.
Philipp Pöhlert-Brackrock (trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass) received his musical training from jazz guitarist and music publisher Werner Pöhlert. After engagements in early music and as a bassist and trumpeter in various jazz ensembles, he has performed with Nina Brackrock since 2000, particularly in the duo BUT FIVE. Both musicians draw inspiration from the traditional jazz practice of listening, transcribing, and improvising as the foundation for their musical expression.
